Description

Experience the delightful fusion of strong Vietnamese coffee and creamy coconut milk in this refreshing iced beverage. Sweetened with condensed milk and served over ice, it’s a perfect treat for any time of day. Enjoy the rich flavors and tropical vibes with every sip!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 tablespoons of coarsely ground Vietnamese coffee (or any strong coffee)
  • 1 cup of hot water
  • 2 tablespoons of sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 cup of coconut milk
  • Ice cubes
  • Optional: shredded coconut for garnish
  • Optional: a pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Start by boiling water. You want it to be hot but not boiling, around 200°F (93°C) is perfect.
  2. While the water is heating, place the coarsely ground coffee into the phin. If you’re using a French press, add the coffee grounds to the press instead.
  3. Once the water is ready, pour about 2 tablespoons of hot water over the coffee grounds in the phin. Let it sit for about 30 seconds.
  4. After blooming, slowly pour the remaining hot water over the coffee grounds in a circular motion. This should take about 3-4 minutes. If you’re using a French press, pour the hot water over the grounds and let it steep for about 4 minutes before pressing down the plunger.
  5. Once brewed, let the coffee drip completely. You should have about 4 ounces of strong coffee.
  6. In a glass, add 2 tablespoons of sweetened condensed milk. Adjust this amount based on how sweet you like your coffee.
  7. Pour the freshly brewed coffee over the condensed milk. Stir well until the milk is fully incorporated into the coffee.
  8. If you want to enhance the flavor, add a pinch of salt.
  9. In a separate bowl or pitcher, pour in 1 cup of coconut milk. If you’re using canned coconut milk, give it a good shake or stir to mix the cream and liquid together.
  10. If you want a sweeter coconut milk, you can add a tablespoon of sweetened condensed milk to the coconut milk and stir until well combined.
  11. For a refreshing twist, you can also add a splash of vanilla extract to the coconut milk.
  12. Fill a tall glass with ice cubes.
  13. Pour the coffee and condensed milk mixture over the ice.
  14. Next, gently pour the coconut milk over the coffee.
  15. If you’re feeling fancy, sprinkle some shredded coconut on top for garnish.

Notes

  • Adjust the sweetness of the drink by varying the amount of sweetened condensed milk.
  • For an extra flavor boost, consider adding a splash of vanilla extract to the coconut milk.
  • This drink is best served immediately while the ice is still cold.
