Ingredients
Scale
- 2 tablespoons of coarsely ground Vietnamese coffee (or any strong coffee)
- 1 cup of hot water
- 2 tablespoons of sweetened condensed milk
- 1 cup of coconut milk
- Ice cubes
- Optional: shredded coconut for garnish
- Optional: a pinch of salt
Instructions
- Start by boiling water. You want it to be hot but not boiling, around 200°F (93°C) is perfect.
- While the water is heating, place the coarsely ground coffee into the phin. If youre using a French press, add the coffee grounds to the press instead.
- Once the water is ready, pour about 2 tablespoons of hot water over the coffee grounds in the phin. Let it sit for about 30 seconds.
- After blooming, slowly pour the remaining hot water over the coffee grounds in a circular motion. This should take about 3-4 minutes. If youre using a French press, pour the hot water over the grounds and let it steep for about 4 minutes before pressing down the plunger.
- Once brewed, let the coffee drip completely. You should have about 4 ounces of strong coffee.
- In a glass, add 2 tablespoons of sweetened condensed milk. Adjust this amount based on how sweet you like your coffee.
- Pour the freshly brewed coffee over the condensed milk. Stir well until the milk is fully incorporated into the coffee.
- If you want to enhance the flavor, add a pinch of salt.
- In a separate bowl or pitcher, pour in 1 cup of coconut milk. If youre using canned coconut milk, give it a good shake or stir to mix the cream and liquid together.
- If you want a sweeter coconut milk, you can add a tablespoon of sweetened condensed milk to the coconut milk and stir until well combined.
- For a refreshing twist, you can also add a splash of vanilla extract to the coconut milk.
- Fill a tall glass with ice cubes.
- Pour the coffee and condensed milk mixture over the ice.
- Next, gently pour the coconut milk over the coffee.
- If youre feeling fancy, sprinkle some shredded coconut on top for garnish.
Notes
- Adjust the sweetness of the drink by varying the amount of sweetened condensed milk.
- For an extra flavor boost, consider adding a splash of vanilla extract to the coconut milk.
- This drink is best served immediately while the ice is still cold.
