Description
A comforting and customizable Honey Milk Tea, perfect hot or iced! Brewed black tea is combined with warm or cold milk and sweetened with honey for a simple, soothing beverage.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup water
- 2 black tea bags (or 2 teaspoons loose leaf black tea)
- 1 cup milk (dairy or non-dairy, your preference!)
- 2–3 tablespoons honey (adjust to your sweetness preference)
- Optional: Ice cubes (for iced tea)
- Optional: Whipped cream for topping
- Optional: Cinnamon powder for dusting
Instructions
- In a small saucepan, bring 1 cup of water to a rolling boil. You can also use an electric kettle if you prefer.
- Once the water is boiling, remove it from the heat. Add the black tea bags (or loose leaf tea) to the hot water.
- Let the tea steep for 3-5 minutes. The longer you steep, the stronger the tea will be. For iced tea, steep for 5 minutes. Be careful not to over-steep, as it can make the tea bitter.
- After steeping, remove the tea bags or strain the loose leaf tea using a fine-mesh sieve. Discard the tea bags or loose leaves.
- If you prefer a warm honey milk tea, gently warm the milk in a separate saucepan or in the microwave. Be careful not to boil the milk. If you’re making iced honey milk tea, you can skip this step and use cold milk straight from the refrigerator.
- Pour the warmed (or cold) milk into a mug or glass. Add 2-3 tablespoons of honey, depending on how sweet you like your tea. Start with 2 tablespoons and then add more to taste.
- Stir the milk and honey mixture thoroughly until the honey is completely dissolved.
- Slowly pour the brewed black tea into the mug or glass containing the honey milk mixture.
- Stir the tea and milk mixture gently to combine.
- As described above, combine cold milk and honey in a glass. Stir well until the honey is dissolved.
- Fill a glass with ice cubes.
- Pour the cooled tea over the ice cubes.
- Pour the milk and honey mixture over the tea and ice.
- Stir gently to combine.
- Take a sip of your honey milk tea and adjust the sweetness to your liking. If it’s not sweet enough, add a little more honey. If it’s too sweet, add a splash of milk or a little more brewed tea.
- Serve the hot or iced honey milk tea immediately and enjoy!
Notes
- Experiment with different types of tea (Earl Grey, Darjeeling, green tea, oolong), non-dairy milk alternatives (almond, soy, oat), and flavorings (vanilla extract, cardamom, lavender honey, matcha powder).
- Top with whipped cream and a sprinkle of cinnamon powder, or add cooked boba pearls for bubble tea.
- Use high-quality tea, avoid over-steeping, adjust sweetness to your liking, use fresh milk, and cool tea slightly before adding ice.
- When making iced honey milk tea, it’s a good idea to brew the tea a little stronger than you would for hot tea. This is because the ice will dilute the tea as it melts. Steep the tea for 5 minutes instead of 3-4.
