Healthy and delicious Espresso Banana Freeze that tastes like ice cream! Made with frozen bananas, espresso, and a touch of peanut butter, this treat is quick, easy, and customizable.
Ingredients
Scale
- 3 ripe bananas, peeled and frozen (at least 2 hours, preferably overnight)
- 1/4 cup strong brewed espresso, cooled (or 2 shots of espresso)
- 1/4 cup milk (dairy or non-dairy, adjust to desired consistency)
- 2 tablespoons cocoa powder (unsweetened)
- 1 tablespoon peanut butter (or any nut butter)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- Pinch of salt
- Optional toppings: chocolate shavings, chopped nuts, banana slices, whipped cream, a drizzle of honey or maple syrup
Instructions
- Prepare the Espresso: Brew your espresso strong and let it cool completely.
- Gather Ingredients: Measure out all ingredients.
- Prepare Frozen Bananas: Take frozen bananas out of the freezer and let them sit for a minute or two to thaw slightly.
- Combine Ingredients in Blender: Add frozen bananas, cooled espresso, milk, cocoa powder, peanut butter, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt to your blender. Add liquid ingredients first, followed by softer ingredients, and then frozen bananas on top.
- Start Blending: Start blending on low speed, gradually increasing to high speed. Stop and scrape down the sides of the blender several times to ensure everything is evenly incorporated.
- Adjust Consistency: If the mixture is too thick, add a little more milk, one tablespoon at a time, until it reaches your desired consistency. If it’s too thin, add a few more pieces of frozen banana.
- Blend Until Smooth: Continue blending until the mixture is completely smooth and creamy.
- Serve Immediately: Spoon the Espresso Banana Freeze into a bowl or glass.
- Choose Your Toppings: Add your desired toppings and enjoy!
Notes
- For best results, use very ripe bananas that are frozen solid.
- If your blender is struggling, let the bananas thaw slightly longer or add a bit more milk.
- Adjust the amount of milk to achieve your desired consistency.
- Get creative with toppings!
- If the freeze is too thin, add more frozen banana and blend again. You can also try freezing the mixture for a short period of time to firm it up.
- If the freeze is too thick, add a little more milk, one tablespoon at a time, until it reaches your desired consistency.
- If your blender is struggling, stop and scrape down the sides. You can also try adding a little more liquid to help it blend more easily. If your bananas are too frozen, let them thaw for a few more minutes before blending.
- If the freeze isn’t sweet enough for your liking, add a tablespoon of maple syrup, honey, or your favorite sweetener to the blender.
- Store in an airtight container in the freezer for up to 2 weeks. Let it thaw for a few minutes before scooping.
