Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 salmon fillets (about 6 ounces each)
  • 2 tablespoons gochujang (Korean chili paste)
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 green onions, sliced (for garnish)
  • Sesame seeds (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, combine the gochujang, softened butter, honey, soy sauce, rice vinegar, minced garlic, grated ginger, and sesame oil.
  2. Whisk the ingredients together until they form a smooth and creamy marinade. Ensure there are no lumps of butter or gochujang left.
  3. Taste the marinade and adjust the seasoning with salt and pepper as needed.
  4. Place the salmon fillets in a shallow dish or a resealable plastic bag.
  5. Pour the marinade over the salmon, ensuring each fillet is well-coated.
  6. Cover the dish with plastic wrap or seal the bag, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes (up to 2 hours for deeper flavor).
  7. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  8. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it with cooking spray.
  9. Once marinated, remove the salmon from the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature for about 10 minutes.
  10. Place the salmon fillets skin-side down on the prepared baking sheet.
  11. Spoon any remaining marinade over the top of the fillets.
  12. Bake the salmon for 12-15 minutes, checking for doneness at the 12-minute mark.
  13. For an extra crispy finish, switch your oven to broil for the last 2-3 minutes of cooking, keeping a close eye to prevent burning.
  14. Once done, remove the salmon from the oven and let it rest for a couple of minutes.
  15. Prepare your serving plates, ideally with steamed rice or a fresh salad.
  16. Carefully transfer the salmon fillets to the plates.
  17. Drizzle any remaining sauce from the baking sheet over the salmon.
  18. Garnish with sliced green onions and a sprinkle of sesame seeds.
  19. Serve the crispy gochujang butter salmon immediately while warm.
  20. Pair with sautéed vegetables or a refreshing cucumber salad.
  21. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Reheat gently.

Notes

  • Adjust the level of gochujang based on your spice preference.
  • For a more intense flavor, marinate the salmon for the full 2 hours.
