Ingredients
Scale
- 1/2 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon minced garlic (about 4–5 cloves)
- 1 tablespoon minced ginger
- 1 tablespoon gochugaru (Korean red pepper flakes) or to taste
- 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
- 1/4 cup green onions, finely chopped
- 1 tablespoon black pepper
- 1 pound beef (ribeye, sirloin, or brisket), thinly sliced
Instructions
- In a medium-sized mixing bowl, combine the soy sauce and brown sugar. Whisk until the sugar is fully dissolved.
- Add the sesame oil to the bowl and mix well.
- Pour in the rice vinegar and stir to combine.
- Add the minced garlic and ginger, mixing until well incorporated.
- Sprinkle in the gochugaru, adjusting the amount to your heat preference.
- Toss in the sesame seeds and chopped green onions, then season with black pepper. Stir until all ingredients are well combined.
- Place the thinly sliced beef in a large resealable plastic bag or shallow dish.
- Pour the marinade over the beef, ensuring every piece is well coated. Seal the bag or cover the dish.
- Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or for best results, marinate for 2 to 4 hours. Overnight marination is ideal for maximum flavor.
- Heat a large skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat. If using a grill, preheat it to medium-high.
- Add a small amount of oil to the skillet or grill pan to prevent sticking.
- Remove the beef from the marinade, allowing excess marinade to drip off. Discard the leftover marinade.
- Place the marinated beef in the hot skillet or on the grill in a single layer.
- Cook for about 3-4 minutes on one side without moving it to achieve a nice sear.
- Flip the beef and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, or until cooked through and slightly caramelized.
- Remove the beef from heat and let it rest for a couple of minutes before serving.
Notes
- For a vegetarian option, substitute beef with thinly sliced mushrooms or tofu.
- Adjust the level of gochugaru based on your spice preference.
- Serve with a side of rice and fresh vegetables for a complete meal.
