  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Description

Savor the delicious flavors of Korean Bulgogi, a marinated beef dish that’s sweet, spicy, and perfect for grilling or stir-frying. This quick and easy recipe ensures tender, flavorful beef that pairs beautifully with rice and fresh vegetables. Enjoy a taste of Korea in just a few simple steps!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic (about 45 cloves)
  • 1 tablespoon minced ginger
  • 1 tablespoon gochugaru (Korean red pepper flakes) or to taste
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
  • 1/4 cup green onions, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon black pepper
  • 1 pound beef (ribeye, sirloin, or brisket), thinly sliced

Instructions

  1. In a medium-sized mixing bowl, combine the soy sauce and brown sugar. Whisk until the sugar is fully dissolved.
  2. Add the sesame oil to the bowl and mix well.
  3. Pour in the rice vinegar and stir to combine.
  4. Add the minced garlic and ginger, mixing until well incorporated.
  5. Sprinkle in the gochugaru, adjusting the amount to your heat preference.
  6. Toss in the sesame seeds and chopped green onions, then season with black pepper. Stir until all ingredients are well combined.
  7. Place the thinly sliced beef in a large resealable plastic bag or shallow dish.
  8. Pour the marinade over the beef, ensuring every piece is well coated. Seal the bag or cover the dish.
  9. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or for best results, marinate for 2 to 4 hours. Overnight marination is ideal for maximum flavor.
  10. Heat a large skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat. If using a grill, preheat it to medium-high.
  11. Add a small amount of oil to the skillet or grill pan to prevent sticking.
  12. Remove the beef from the marinade, allowing excess marinade to drip off. Discard the leftover marinade.
  13. Place the marinated beef in the hot skillet or on the grill in a single layer.
  14. Cook for about 3-4 minutes on one side without moving it to achieve a nice sear.
  15. Flip the beef and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, or until cooked through and slightly caramelized.
  16. Remove the beef from heat and let it rest for a couple of minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For a vegetarian option, substitute beef with thinly sliced mushrooms or tofu.
  • Adjust the level of gochugaru based on your spice preference.
  • Serve with a side of rice and fresh vegetables for a complete meal.
