- 1/4 cup breadcrumbs (preferably whole wheat)
- 1/4 cup finely chopped red onion
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon fresh cilantro, chopped (optional)
- 4 whole wheat burger buns
- 1 cup lettuce leaves
- 1 tomato, sliced
- 1/2 cup sliced pickles (optional)
- Olive oil for grilling
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground turkey and the mashed avocado.
- Add the breadcrumbs to the mixture.
- Add the finely chopped red onion and minced garlic.
- Pour in the Worcestershire sauce.
- Sprinkle in the smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper.
- If using cilantro, add it now and mix everything together gently with your hands until just combined.
- Divide the mixture into four equal portions.
- Shape each portion into a patty about 3/4 inch thick, making a slight indentation in the center of each patty.
- Place the patties on a plate or a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Heat a grill or a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Once hot, carefully place the patties on the grill or skillet.
- Cook the burgers for about 5-6 minutes on the first side without pressing down on them.
- Flip the burgers gently using a spatula and cook for an additional 5-6 minutes on the other side until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C).
- If desired, add a slice of cheese on top of each patty during the last minute of cooking and cover to help it melt.
- While the burgers are cooking, prepare the burger buns by toasting them lightly.
- Once cooked, remove the burgers from the heat and let them rest for a couple of minutes.
- To assemble, start with the bottom half of the burger bun and place a lettuce leaf on it.
- Add the turkey burger patty on top of the lettuce.
- Top with a slice of tomato and any additional toppings like sliced pickles or extra avocado.
- Finally, place the top half of the bun on the burger and serve.
Notes
- Feel free to customize the toppings based on your preferences. Other great additions include sliced onions, jalapeños, or different types of cheese.
